Ina May Gaskin – Quote 1
We are the only species of mammal that doubts our ability to give birth. It’s profitable to scare women about birth. But let’s stop it. I tell women: your body is not a lemon.
Coaching is the art of empowering and inspiring rather than teaching or correcting. It is the art of leading others to identify and fulfill their goals and visions by overcoming potential challenges along the way.
Ina May Gaskin – Quote 2
If a woman doesn’t look like a goddess when she is in labor, then someone isn’t treating her right.
Dr. Grantly Dick-Read
We must understand that childbirth is fundamentally a spiritual, as well as a physical, achievement. The birth of a child is the ultimate perfection of human love.
Remember that each labor contraction is caused by a wave of oxytocin coursing through your body. So, very literally, each birthing surge is a surge of love.
Brianna Z. Kauer
Childbirth is power in its purest and most natural form–it is wild and uncontrollable and takes us on a journey of surrender. Birth is about so much more than babies being born. It is about a mother finding her inner strength at her most vulnerable and powerful moment, which begins her unique and lifelong journey of mothering that child.
When Lou found out my partner and I were adopting she jumped at the opportunity to offer all the support she could. Knowing that she had already participated in several births and we were about to go though one ourselves, we were eager for the advice. We had little understanding of what women experience during pregnancy and felt unprepared in how to support our child’s birth mother emotionally and physically. Lou graciously stepped in to offer her guidance though the process. She gave us direct advice in the birthing process, options we had, labor positions, and pain management. Lou could describe what physical changes were happening to her body so
we could grasp what was happening and helped calm our nerves. We were grateful to have a voice of empathy through this experience. We felt support in the all decisions we made. The consultation we received from Lou helped us all better prepare for the birth of our beautiful daughter.
Thank you Lou!
Miracle of Life
Since the age of thirteen when we were forced to watch “The Miracle of Life” in science class, I have been TERRIFIED of ever giving birth. It was actually a factor in my decision to have children. Once I became pregnant, I decided the easiest course of action would be to avoid thinking about the birth process as much as possible, and to find ways to “distract” myself while I was in labor. Meeting with Lou changed everything. She re-framed the way I thought about birth, to the point where I began to get excited to go into labor. She was a great source of information that complimented and expanded on what I had learned from my hospital’s birth class. She helped me come up with a birth plan that I felt great about, and ultimately was able to stick to. During the actual birth process she was a source of encouragement, a calming presence, and her HANDS were gifts sent from heaven! I cannot imagine giving birth without Lou being a part of it, and I don’t think I would have had such a great birth experience if it were not or her.

Working with Lou was an absolute dream! She was the best investment we made in our birth plan! She is a devoted and extremely dedicated doula who went above and beyond to ensure we were provided with exceptional support, guidance, and knowledge. We really appreciated her nurturing, grounded presence during our pre-birth and after-birth support sessions and during the birth itself. Her wealth of knowledge and her ability to listen to our specific needs and desires made all of the difference. She also does amazing birth photography! We’re so pleased with our entire experience with her and we highly recommend her services!
